Repeat After Me explores the idea of how ancient rituals and knowledge can be adapted and evolved in the modern world. The piece examines how can traditional practices be reinterpreted and incorporated into contemporary society.
Several spells against the fear from different regions of Georgia are combined in the work. The combined spells are edited to address contemporary issues.
Spells in Georgia are poetic texts that are passed down verbally from generation to generation. However, in addition to the usual function of poetry, these words are attributed to the power of healing and consolation. They are used even today to deal with various pains and anxieties in everyday life. At the point of repetition, poetry loses its usual function and seems to regain the original power of the word.
Against the backdrop of disrupted social guarantees, economic crises, pandemics, and war, the desire to find different ways of coping with reality is often awakened in society.
What are the issues in today’s world that could be dispelled by magic words? Can debts, war, and climate change be banished with the power of the word? Repeat After Me invites the viewer to confront fears head-on and combat anxieties with the power of the word.
The location of the video presentation is also significant. It is one of the advertising screens on busy streets in the city, where everyone can see it. In this way, Repeat after Me seems to appeal to the city to repeat a spell with it to get a release from social or other fears. The work was presented on an outdoor advertising screen in Tbilisi.
Translation of the spell:
In the name of the Name, I pray To banish all fears away Heart, why do you tremble so? Come back to your peaceful abode Did a mother’s scolding scare? Or a father’s stern glare? Were you deep in slumber’s keep? Or were you wide-eyed and steeped? Was it the creaking door’s sound? Or the dog’s barks all around? Did something from above descend? Or something from earth ascend? Did rustling leaves make you jump? Or was it thunder’s mighty thump? Wind’s howling or debt’s looming threat? War’s chaos or a mouse’s fret? Or was it just a bad dream, A nightmarish, eerie scheme? Come back, heart, to where you belong Let go of fears that hold you strong Let them ebb away like water Or be swept away like a gale’s blur No bridge can cross the wide sea No stairs can reach the heavens’ decree Fear shall not dare to approach Your heart, forever safe, shall encroach My mouth, a lock, keeps fears at bay My words, the key, to unlock a brighter day.

„გაიმეორე ჩემთან ერთად“ არის მარიამ ნატროშვილის და დეთუ ჯინჭარაძის CGI ვიდეო ნამუშევარი.
ნამუშევარში გამოყენებულია ქართულ ხალხურ ტრადიციაში, მაგიური მნიშვნელობის მქონე შიშის მოსაშორებელი (შეშინებულის) რამდენიმე შელოცვა, რომელსაც მხატვრები თანამედროვე შიშების აღმნიშვნელ სიტყვებს ამატებენ და ციფრულ მედიაში თარგმნიან.
შელოცვა ერთგვარი ხალხური პოეზიაა, რომელიც თაობიდან თაობას ზეპირსიტყვიერად გადაეცემა. თუმცა, ამ სიტყვებს პოეზიის ჩვეული ფუნქციის გარდა, განკურნებისა და ნუგეშისცემის ძალა მიეწერება და ყოველდღიურობაში სხვადასხვა ტკივილთან თუ შფოთთან გასამკლავებლად დღესაც კი იყენებენ.
